In the mid 1920s this roaring anthem took the Northeast by storm, especially among the horse racing crowd .🏇
Although released under the Jitterbug Jills' name, the song features only the charismatic Emma Farrington on vocals. 🎶
As the story goes, Emma was left to record solo after the other two Jills "accidentally" placed a bet on the wrong horse and ended up running late... all the way to the Kentucky Derby.
Despite-or perhaps because of-their absence, Emma delivered a performance that not only kept the Jills' name alive but also etched her voice into the hearts of gamblers everywhere. 👯♀️
The track's catchy line, "The horses are jealous but we don't care," became the go-to phrase for celebrating wins in smoky, dimly lit speakeasies across the Northeast. It's said that the line was shouted out so often, it could've been mistaken for the night's final call at the bar! 🥃
After this 1920s jam swept the racetrack, horse racing was forever sexy.

(Verse 1) We went down to the track, skirts hiked up to our knees,
With a bottle of gin and a fat roll of twenties
We bet on the nag with a limp and a sway,
But who knew old Buster would run like a bay!
(Chorus) a day of of whiskey, bets, and winning, hip hip hooray
We're three tipsy gals, and we've made our pay.
We danced on the tables, tossed our coins in the air,
The horses are jealous, but we don't care!
(Verse 2) The odds were stacked like our heels, high and tight,
But with every sip, those numbers looked right.
We hollered and hooted as Buster took lead,
The jockey looked scared, but we cheered, indeed!
(Chorus) a day of of whiskey, bets, and winning, hip hip hooray
We're three tipsy gals, and we've made our pay.
We danced on the tables, tossed our coins in the air,
The horses are jealous, but we don't care!
(Bridge) Now Buster's in the stable, sipping on rye,
While we're in the speakeasy, kissing luck goodbye.
But who needs another race when you're this flush?
Let's toast to the nags that turned us lush!
(Chorus) a day of of whiskey, bets, and winning, hip hip hooray
We're three tipsy gals, and we've made our pay.
We danced on the tables, tossed our coins in the air,
The horses are jealous, but we don't care!
(Outro) we love to the ponies, the whisky, and the cheer,
We'll be back tomorrow with more cash to clear.
But tonight, we're queens of the track, don't you see?
Three drunk Jills, as rich as can be!
