A huge thanks to Billy Willis and his son Ian for unearthing these recordings, allowing me to share with you all. The Doc was heavily recorded in his pomp by those in attendance and a few of these tapes have since surfaced, but there will no doubt be more. If you have any more recordings of The Doc on any form of media and unsure what is on it, give me a shout and we can get it digitized and returned.

John Doc with a vintage rendition of Nobody Wins, a song that would be associated with John throughout his career, with one of the finest recordings of the song featuring on The Doc's 1979 EP At Hasties Farm and was performed at the Jock Stein Tribute Night in 1982.
Written solely by Kris Kristofferson, the song first appeared as the second track on his 1972 studio album, Jesus Was a Capricorn, recorded at Quadraphonic Studio and Monument Recording Studio in Nashville, produced by Fred Foster.
While Kristofferson wrote it, Brenda Lee turned it into a commercial powerhouse. Lee had first met Kristofferson years earlier when he was still a janitor at a Nashville recording studio. Her 1973 version became her first Top 10 country hit, peaking at #5 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and reaching #1 in Canada. Lee recalled being moved to tears when she first heard the track, stating the "desperately sad song was right up my alley".
The Chairman of the Board, Frank Sinatra, recorded the song for his 1973 album Ol' Blue Eyes Is Back. Released on Reprise Records, the track was part of a selection intended to show his "adventurous" side by taking on contemporary songwriters like Kristofferson. The New York Times singled out Nobody Wins as the "most convincing entry" on the album, noting his ability to underscore the "tearing sadness" of the lyrics.

The website that was launched for The Doc serves two purposes - to celebrate the life and music of one of the finest voices to ever grace these shores, and to seek out any additional material that may still be out there of Doc, especially the master tapes of his officially released albums.
These songs maintains optimism that there is more out there from either session and most likely on cassette tape. Please do get in touch if you are in possession of any of Doc's music and we can get it digitized to share and returned!
Thanks to founder of Nevis records and legendary Scottish songwriter Jim McLean, he amazingly gifted me the master tape of Doc's first album At The Carousel to digitize and share, and would have done likewise with the second master tape, but unfortunately, it wasn't in his possession.
The master tapes of At The Carousel Volume II, At Hasties Farm and At Cowie Bowling Club are still out there somewhere, and if anyone has any information on the whereabouts of the master tapes or any information on the recordings itself, avenues I should seek out etc, it would be greatly appreciated. Names that may be of help are: Sam Plotnikoff, Graham Gordon, Billy Brown and Keith Mitchell. If anyone knows these gentlemen, please pass on the website listed above where they can reach out to me via the contact form should they have any information that would be of use.
Slainte!
