Enjoy this scenic tour around the Mesa Creek area on Grand Mesa, outside of Mesa, Colorado (outside of Grand Junction, Colorado) in Mesa County on the Western Slope of Colorado. This video starts with a flight up the skin-track winter route up the 'Old Powderhorn' ski area that is now enjoyed by backcountry skiers and split-boarders who are willing to use their own foot power to get to the top of these relic ski runs from the 1940’s and 50's. The skin-track goes up next to the main cut run on this side of the drainage, known by locals as 'Pruess'. Once at the top of the skin-track, we turn right and traverse along the top of the bench, eventually 'dropping in' and following down a slightly tree filled run known simply as 'Hill'. The video ends with a slow trek across the forested northern slope of Grand Mesa immediately west of the Mesa Creek ski area. This heavily treed area lacks any trails, even in summer time, and make for great backcountry exploration due to the 'mostly' avalanche save slope angles on Grand Mesa.
This video was taken April 15, 2023, near the end of one of the bigger snow seasons in the past 15 years.
