"Metamodernism is my field of expertise. I play with post-irony, sensuality, tenderness. In doing so, I integrate artworks from other eras into my collages and digital paintings. I focus on aesthetic processes of the present and precisely observe the emergence of new phenomena in culture and society. I am concerned with visualising my authenticity and my visions in the current aesthetic context. I want to respectfully rethink the cultural background of today's world and traditional images of reality, and in this way change the social rules of the game." - Alfred Stoll.
In the age of global digitalisation and gadgets, classical art is increasingly losing its significance. In the digital space, something new is created from what already exists. Alfred Stoll uses "fragments" of European culture from antiquity to the 20th century - artistic styles, images, techniques that are broken, recombined by his individuality. The fascinating mosaic that emerges celebrates the beauty and excellence of the past, reflects the present and radiates into the future.
Stoll's current exhibition offers a retrospective of the grotesque in European art. Oscillating between abstraction and irony, it reviews its bizarre forms. By mixing tradition and modernity, the boundaries between the elitist and the ordinary are dissolved. His works are aesthetic experiments in which the established "high" and "low" art forms merge into a whole, snobbery, seriousness and high value of the overrated works of art are reduced and, in return, the hitherto underestimated becomes weighty. In this way, a metamodern equilibrium is established in which there is neither black nor white, but only oscillations between both poles.
Metamodern Grotesk describes a current visual style in art and design that has style in art and design that has become increasingly popular in recent years. and is not only visually different from other styles, but also, thanks to the new new visual forms of expression thanks to the new possibilities of digital technology. forms of expression. It is a retrospective of the grotesque in cultural eras with a contemporary, sometimes ironic look at strange ironic look at strange cultural forms and figures. In his paintings and collages, he does not use analogue tools such as brushes and canvas. Instead, his creative process consists of a combination of techniques made possible by new media: Colour inversion, double exposure, distortion, multiple superimposition, stylisation, motion, video collage, AR and MR, AI/Generative Art. There is no basic methodology for their application. Alfred Stoll's digital laboratory is his smartphone and laptop - they are always with him, easy to use and require nothing from the artist except a willingness to experiment.
