Hello, and welcome to Last Straw Drinks...Local, Oscars Edition! All week long we will be bringing you drinks from and inspired by all 9 of the 2020 nominees for Best Picture. We hope you enjoy the ride, we know we enjoyed watching the films and coming up with different recipes for each one.

In the seventh episode of the sub-series, Last Straw takes a look at Best Picture nominee, 1917 starring Dean-Charles Chapman and George MacKay. In total, 1917 was nominated for 10 Academy Awards:

Best Picture (Sam Mendes, Pippa Harris, Jayne-Ann Tenggren and Callum McDougall)

Best Original Screenplay (Sam Mendes and Krysty Wilson-Cairns)

Best Makeup and Hairstyling (Naomi Donne, Tristan Versluis and Rebecca Cole)
Best Sound Editing (Oliver Tarney and Rachael Tate)

We decided to feature The Sidecar for this episode. It was featured in Harry MacElhone's 1922 book "Harry's ABC's of Mixing Drinks" and we felt it was appropriate as its origins are credited to an American Army captain posted in Paris during WWI who named it after the motorcycle sidecar in which he travelled around in. We found the recipe on The Spruce Eats, and as always, we substituted for local, and especially our own, when and where possible.
