In this video, I break down one of the most important lessons I’ve learned through injury, recovery, and long-term strength training: see every therapist you can before you ever go under the knife.
Too many athletes, lifters, and hard-working people are pushed toward surgery far too quickly. What’s often labeled as a “minor surgery” can turn into months—or years—of setbacks, frustration, and lingering pain. I always tell everyone the same thing: exhaust every non-surgical option first. Physical therapists, movement specialists, strength coaches, and rehab professionals can often identify and fix issues that surgery never addresses.
I speak from real experience. I was told that surgery would be a quick fix—six to eight weeks and I’d be good to go. The reality? Even today, I can still feel where the issue was. That doesn’t mean therapy magically erased everything, but it gave me something surgery never could: control, understanding, and long-term durability. I will forever be grateful that I took the time to see therapists in my area before committing to an operating table.
In this video, I also explain how injury recovery completely reshaped how I train. At IRON CORE ATHLETE, training is no longer about ego lifting or chasing numbers blindly. It’s about structure, balance, and identifying weak points before they become injuries.
We still use all the tools:
🧩 Bands and reverse bands
🧩 Chains
🧩 Fat bars, football bars, camber bars
🧩 Incline, decline, flat, and floor presses
But the difference is intent. Every variation exists for a reason. We track performance, find weaknesses, and build around them using smart programming and mini training cycles. Regular bands, reverse bands, and specialty bars aren’t gimmicks—they’re diagnostic tools that tell us where we’re strong, where we’re leaking power, and where we need work.
