Canadian Brass Tonight Show - Johnny Carson - late 70's (rare video!)

TONIGHT SHOW appearance! Canadian Brass had already played the main stage at Carnegie Hall, proving it could hold forth in a major international venue. Then it was the Tonight Show that truly put the Brass in the upper echelon of performers/entertainers on the world stage. Appearing on the tonight show was like the “Seal of Approval” to audiences. Originally the Brass was scheduled to appear at the end of the show that night - a dangerous spot because if a prior guest went beyond his or her time the last to appear could be ‘bumped.” However, it was know that Johnny Carson watched rehearsals from his dressing room, and after seeing the rehearsal sent a message down that the ensemble should be moved to middle of the show! He apparently liked the ‘complete’ 8-minute concert complete with an intermission. This appearance not established the Brass as a major concert hall attraction but began a wonderful friendship with Doc Severinsen that continues to this day.

Eight Minute Concert:
Just a Closer Walk
Bach Fugue in G minor
Carnival of Venice
Flight of the Tuba Bee
intermission
Carmen Toreador Song
Handful of Keys

Ronald Romm & Fred Mills: trumpets
Graeme Page: horn
Eugene Watts: trombone
Chuck Daellenbach: tuba
