Verdict: Recommended for fans of psychedelic, trippy rock with a lot of layers and great melody.

Overview: Aufheben is an adventure in neo-psychedelia and space rock. It's like listening to an early Pink Floyd record, except catchier and more accessible. Eastern influences are slathered onto every track, with lots of flutes and sitars occupying the instrumental palate. These tracks are incredibly dense. The more time you spend with this record, the more there is to uncover. Even the vocals demand attention to detail. At first, Aufheben feels like a throwback listen, but as you get more used to the sound, you realize this is cutting-edge songwriting and forward thinking sound design that cites many classic rock references. It's a trip you want to go on.
