Israeli and Hamas officials are meeting in Egypt on Monday in hopes of negotiating a ceasefire in Gaza as the war approaches its second anniversary.

Minister Ron Dermer will head the Israeli delegation and will participate in indirect negotiations in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, according to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office.

Hamas’ delegation, headed by Khalil al-Hayyah, arrived Sunday in Egypt, the group said in a statement.

"The technical teams will again meet Monday, in Egypt, to work through and clarify the final details," President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social. "I am told that the first phase should be completed this week, and I am asking everyone to MOVE FAST. I will continue to monitor this Centuries old “conflict.” TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE OR, MASSIVE BLOODSHED WILL FOLLOW — SOMETHING THAT NOBODY WANTS TO SEE!"

U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner are expected to join the talks.

The meeting follows Hamas' acceptance of certain elements of the 20-point U.S. peace plan, a move welcomed by Trump. Under the plan, Hamas would release the remaining 48 hostages — about 20 believed to be alive — within three days. It would give up power and disarm.
