Shwethalyaung in Bago (Pegu), Myanmar (Burma) is the world's largest reclining Buddha which depicts the historical Gautama Buddha on the eve of His entry into nirvana. Built in A.D. 994 by King Migadippa it is 180 feet (55 meters) long and 52 feet (16 meters) high. After having disappeared for 125 years it was unearthed in 1881 by a contractor for the British Yangon-Bago railway line. [see also Picasa album at: http://picasaweb.google.com/paulfs.bk... ]
