In the book "Show Your Work", the author Áustin Kleon asks us to become a documentation of what we do.

Most of us do something to earn a living or keep us happy. You could be a writer, photographer, software developer, gamer or anyone that does something that other people are willing to learn.

Many of you will feel that you are not doing anything substantial to show it to the others. However, there are many people looking to learn what you are already doing in your work. So, documenting your work as well as your process is one of the most important things you can do to show your work to others. If you are a writer, you can document the content you write, what you read, how do you got ideas to write and how you edit your content. If you are a software developer, you can just record your screen while developing software. Similarly, you can document your work differently based on your profession.

No matter what you do, you can always record the process. Also, you should document the tools you use for work, how you learn new things, what mistakes were made and how you do certain things differently to others.

Once you document the work every day, you will see the areas that needs improvement. Also you can track how the quality and speed of your work changed overtime. So, start documenting what you do everyday. You might not be ready to share it with the world yet. But when you do, you will have massive amount of content that you can share with others and show your skills.

Even though many of us think, "Who would watch how we work", there are plenty of people just starting and no clue about how to do things that you already do. They will value your work like gold and consider you to be their expert. Some of them will be even willing to pay for you to become their teacher or mentor. A bigger audience means that you will get lot more opportunities than what you got, before sharing your work.


So, start documenting your work from today.
