Scottish cyclist Josh Quigley arrives in Braemar, Scotland after he is believed to have set a new world record for the greatest distance cycled un-paced in a week. Josh at 29 years old and from Livingston, is thought to have set a new world record at 3,507.8 kms, beating Australian pro-cyclist Jack Thompson's record of 3,505 kms or 2,179.66 miles.

Josh cycled laps of an 80-mile route between Aberdeen and the Cairngorms, keeping a daily average of 320 miles. He tried to keep a speed of 18mph for 18 hours a day and did 43 hours on the last days, cycling 637 miles in the last stretch without sleep, finishing at 04:00hrs on Monday 20th September 2021. His team passed him food while he was cycling uphill when he was going slower. He burned 15,000 calories each day during the challenge, which saw him climb 8,000ft a day.

Having completed the challenge, John and his team then made their way to the home of the Braemar Gathering, where he met the Guinness World Record official adjudicator, Glenn Pollard, who provisionally confirmed the new world record and presented Josh with his certificate. Guinness World records will have to confirm the record before it can be officially registered.
