The current designs of walk behind salt spreaders contribute to yearly oversalting and, consequently, the deteriorating water quality of lakes. Therefore, an eco-friendly salt drop spreader was developed that continuously churns the salt and actively measures a user’s walking speed. From testing, the prototype was shown to drop 70% to 97% less salt than current spreaders and was within 0.001 pounds of salt per square foot from the Wisconsin Salt Wise salt drop standard.
