🔊🔛 Having been to #Rochester twice before, I had no desire to see the usual touristy sites involving Susan B. Anthony, Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad, or George Eastman and the now defunct Kodak photography empire. Third time’s the charm, and this go-around I’d experience “Anna’s Rochester,” to just hang out and do as the Rochesterians.

A day in “Anna’s Rochester” involves going to breakfast at @TheCrumpetLady, a cute English tea parlor-inspired cafe selling fresh crumpets, while perhaps searching for a couple of geocaches on the way. By midday we drove through the University of Rochester campus (her typical running route) on the way to Genesee Valley Park, to see—this time from the land perspective—the confluence of the Erie Canal and the Genesee River (namesake of “Genny” cream ale).

We picked up some scissor-cut, Roman-style pizza at @FornoTony, her go-to pizzeria hidden beyond a dance studio, to bring to a beach picnic at Durand Eastman Beach on Great Lake Ontario—so great and large it looks like an ocean. Restaurant recommendations continued at @BarBillTavern East, contender in the Best Buffalo Wing debate since its original location is in a Buffalo suburb (but more about that debate in the next video). It’s also where I had a #BeefOnWeck, a regional specialty of sliced roast beef in a sandwich within a salt and caraway seed kaiser roll. Horseradish optional, but necessary I think.

Of course it wouldn’t be a late night in Rochester without having a “garbage plate” of #hotdogs smothered in sauce, on a bed of fries and macaroni salad. Anna and her partner Ian took me to their go-to, @DogtownHots, where it’s called a “junkyard plate” to avoid the copyrighted “garbage”. — Third time’s the charm in Rochester, NY, USA.
