The 23rd World Judo Championship was held from 11 to 14 September 2003 in Osaka. Within the framework of this championship, 16 sets of awards were drawn.

As a result of the championship, the winner of the first place in the team competition was the team of Japan. Athletes of this country won 6 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals. The Japanese team has never dropped from the first line of the team rating in the history of the joint world championships in judo.
