Punishment: Any challenge to their inflated sense of self deserves a penalty. The silent treatment leaves you feeling ostracized and desperate for their approval, a potent punishment for daring to disagree.
Control: By refusing to communicate, they regain control of the narrative. You're left confused and scrambling to understand their silence, putting you on the defensive.
Deflection: Stonewalling allows them to dodge accountability for their actions. Suddenly, the focus shifts to your "reaction" to their silence, deflecting any blame for the underlying conflict.
