Why was Angus Deayton sacked from Have I Got News For You? Find out about the HIGNFY scandal that caused his downfall.

Angus Deayton was a famous British TV personality, hosting the BBC panel show Have I Got News For You from its inception in 1990. But in 2002, Angus suffered a dramatic downfall following a tabloid frontpage scandal when a prostitute Caroline Martin sold her story to the News of the World about Angus having an affair with her and taking cocaine, while his long-term partner Lise Mayer was pregnant with his child.

When another allegation of Angus Deayton having a mistress made more headlines, he was sacked from HIGNFY, and disappeared from British telly. His career hasn't fully recovered since, although Angus has presented and starred in a few shows such as Absolute Power with Stephen Fry and John Bird. Deayton also presented the 2008 British Comedy Awards, and the first two series of Would I Lie To You, but got his joke about Jimmy Saville censured by the BBC.

Have I Got News For You continues to this day, and still stars Ian Hislop and Paul Merton as team captains, along with guest presenters.
