The Daily Telegraph Crime Editor Mark Morri says very few people thought Comanchero bikie boss Mark Buddle would return to Australia, with the 37-year-old taken into police custody on Wednesday after being extradited from Turkey.

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) confirmed in a statement a 37-year-old Australian man was arrested over the alleged importation of more than 160kg of cocaine into Melbourne in May last year.

Assistant Commissioner Nigel Ryan said Turkish authorities had made an “independent decision” to deport the man to Australia after an Interpol Red Notice was issued for his arrest.

“The Federal Police have a representative in Turkey, and the next thing you know, Mark Buddle is put on a plane here, being deported to Australia,” Mr Morri told Sky News Australia.

“Many thought he’d just say, ‘well, okay, you want to get rid of me, I’m going to buy a ticket and going to go to Jordan or somewhere else’.

“But that didn’t happen, and he’s here now, and he’ll be facing court very soon.”
