Interview With Jordyn Zimmerman: A Nonspeaking Autistic Role Model

Описание к видео Interview With Jordyn Zimmerman: A Nonspeaking Autistic Role Model

This inspiring interview with Jordyn Zimmerman, a nonspeaking autistic individual, is a follow-up to the fascinating documentary featuring her, "This Is Not About Me." Jordyn spoke with xMinds following a screening of this documentary, which details her struggles to communicate as a child and her eventual success. Please note that there is a delay between the interviewer's questions and Jordyn's responses, which are transmitted through Augmentative and Alternative Communication.

Because Jordyn couldn't communicate as a child, her teachers thought she was unable understand or learn. Frustrated and struggling to connect with the world, Jordyn’s behavior worsened year after year. Her teachers couldn’t manage her challenging behaviors, and school became a living nightmare. Finally, a team of educators helped Jordyn find a way to communicate. She quickly caught up to her peers and not only graduated high school but also graduated from college with a degree in education policy. Jordyn is now pursuing a masters of education and aspires to improve the education system.
