Karnataka govt hikes bus fare by 15%. Is the hike fair or unfair? | News9

The Karnataka government has announced a 15 per cent hike in bus fares across all four state-run transport corporations. One of the main reasons given for this hike is to generate an additional revenue of Rs 7.84 crore per day for the cash-strapped corporations. The fare hike comes amidst the state’s flagship Shakti scheme, which provides free bus travel for women on State-run buses and is set to partially offset the scheme's financial burden. But the hike has also angered citizens, with the opposition BJP slamming the government saying that it was burdening the public under the pretext of its five guarantee schemes.
