Today I’m going to do a review of the Griffin Survivor Identity. This is a case that’s a little more flashy than Griffin’s other cases and surprisingly, it does fairly well.
This is a three piece case that’s drop rated to 4 ft. There is a screen protector, bumper and back panel which according to Griffin, you can swap out with other people with a Identity case. I’m not a big fan of the screen protector portion of the case but in reality, that portion is optional.
Based on my time with the case, I’ve given it a score of 4.4 Eh’s out of 5. It scores just a smidge lower than the Survivor core and a tad higher than the Slim Armor. I personally prefer all three of these cases over Griffins Survivor All Terrain for everyday use. If you rather read the rest of the review, head over to the website and if you’re going to get a Griffin Case, check out the comparison table. Links are in the i or in description section below.
At MobileReviewsEh, we base our reviews on actual usage so so when we see that case can be dropped from 4 ft, well, we might drop it from 4 ft. As a quick side not, I’ve actually had this Griffin case since the release of the iPhone 6 but didn’t think people wanted to see another Griffin case review but your votes on my Ranker tool proved me wrong.
In terms of design, the size of the case can be quite thick or it could be quite thin depending on the version of the Griffin Identity that you get. On the iPhone 6 Plus, I purchased an Idenity whose back looks like a speaker grill that has a slight round on the back so coupled with the screen protector, this Identity is almost as thick as the Survivor Slim. However, on the iPHone 6, I have a graphite version, which has a back that is flush on the back, which is quite thin.
In terms of build quality, the I’m not a big fan of how the case goes together as the back breaks out from the bumper fairly easily. Other than that, the case seems to keep together fairly well.
For protection, this is one of the toughest slim cases that we’ve reviewed as its drop rated, has multiple layers, comes with a screen protector, has decent edge for screen protection and no unnecessary cutouts. With that being said, I will say that dust and debris will get to your iPHone because of the fit issue mentioned in the build quality so if you do get this case, consider cleaning it periodically.
As a side note, this isn’t the toughest of the Griffin cases as the Slim and Core can be both dropped from 6.6 ft or 2 m whereas the Identity is rated to 4 ft or 1.2 m so don’t throw it over your head.
In terms of accessing your iPhone inside the case, I didn’t have any issues. The buttons are so easy to use especially when compared to the Griffin Survivor Core, the cutouts at the bottom of the case are large enough to handle a variety of different sized cords and the Touch ID cutout, though a little high, doesn’t get in the way of the sensor. There are also no camera or sound issues.
The screen protector is quite nice though having it jut out every so slightly makes dislike it quite a bit. The screen protector is sticky so it eliminates any sort of gap between the screen protector and the iPhone which is nice. Hopefully they decide to do the same thing with their next iteration of the the Griffin Survivor All-Terrain. Glare isn’t an issue or extra reflections and most importantly, no diffusion of the iPhone’s wonderful Retina HD screen.
