This type of knife was produced in the XIX century in Thiers (France) for the Spanish and South American market. Handle butt simulates ratchet on the tail of a rattlesnake. In the French weaponology it`s called: "la queue de crotale" - rattlesnake tail. These knives have been particularly popular among the Spanish "bandoleros" - robbers.

Blade, spring: 440C stainless steel
Frame: Brass
Handle: horn (bone), solid brass
