The RE-501 and SRE-555 are two vintage tape echo machines from Roland-- both created later in the lineage of this family of units. With a myriad of effects available within the units, they have a mesmerizing visual component under the hood as well. With a serpentine tape constantly moving within the box, there is some magic and unpredictability that contributes to its mystique. With warm analog tones, these units are wonderful for synths, guitars, and more; but at retail prices nearing $2,000 or $3,000-- are they worth it?
