Toy train unboxing of the Märklin DCC Freight Train & Supermarket Starter Set Thomas & Friends Salty was clearly impressed. This train set was a $179 Aldi Australia Christmas special. This is my first experience with Märklin trains and it's pretty obvious this is a top shelf quality toy. The Märklin HO train system is different to the standard used by many other model train companies. There is a third rail concealed in the roadbed with only small studs protruding through the ties of the track 'C-Track in this set'. The two outer rails are connected electrically. This provides the simplified wiring enjoyed by larger gauges (such as for reverse loops) without seriously detracting from the realism of the track because only two of the rails are visible. Because the two outer rails are not electrically isolated from each other, however, some do not consider Märklin's system to be a true three-rail system. Older sections of 'M-Track' do have an actual conductor rail rather than studs. This older system is compatible with newer trains, although the reduced clearance for the pick-up shoe can sometimes cause running difficulties. Because I'm not an experienced Märklin user there was lots to understand Vs my usual Bachmann and Hornby trains. The real quality can be seen in the C-Track system, it's very similar in look to Thomas & Friends classic Trackmaster. This track system is easy to connect and once connected it's robust. The train controller is perfect for children and there are other digital channels available. The outstanding features were the details, finish, and the outstand performance of the small diesel train. In this video that little train could do anything. This Märklin Freight Train starter set has more positives than negatives, the sound that Märklin trains make because of the little power pick up studs is rather nice as well. I'm now curious to expand this train set, but I'm well aware that Märklin trains come at a fairly high price. Who knows Märklin may contact me and help me in achieving a much grander layout. Dream on!

Märklin Digital (mfx)
In 2004 the completely new Märklin Systems digital control was unveiled. A new two way protocol can control up to 65,000 digital devices, each locomotive can have up to 128 speed steps and 16 functions. Developed by ESU with all components initially made by them for Märklin, later the name "Märklin Systems" was dropped and once again the system is known as "Märklin Digital".

Märklin (MÄRKLIN or MAERKLIN in capital letters) is a German toy company. The company was founded in 1859 and is based at Göppingen in Baden-Württemberg. Although it originally specialised in doll house accessories, today it is best known for model railways and technical toys. In some parts of Germany and in Sweden, the company's name is almost synonymous with model railroads. Today, Märklin manufactures and markets trains and accessories in Gauge 1, H0 scale, and Z scale. In 1994 Märklin acquired a Nuremberg based model train manufacturer Trix. Today Trix is another brand of Märklin Holding and covers N-scale and DC-operated H0 scale. Märklin's older trains are considered highly collectible today, and Märklin's current offerings enjoy premium status among hobbyists.
