Madison Blagden aka Peg Leg received a lot of mixed reactions when she shared a written recounting of a harrowing encounter she had on the Appalachian Trail earlier this year.

It seemed that for every supportive comment giving her kudos for following her gut, she received an equally critical comment attacking her character, judgement, and sanity.

Was Peg Leg actually almost attacked? Is the internet's assessment of what Peg Leg calls her "scariest encounter on trail ever" overly critical? Or maybe, is the Appalachian Trail truly dangerous, and this is just another example of a near-miss?
