Biblical 'Kinds': A 1946 Perspective on Young Earth Creationism

Описание к видео Biblical 'Kinds': A 1946 Perspective on Young Earth Creationism

A central feature of young-age creationists understanding of the origins of biological diversity revolves around defining what the Bible is referencing when it says that God created living things “according to their kinds.” This isn’t a new question and the how broadly or narrowing the “kind” is thought to be. The answer has a huge impact on how creationists view how much change species can undergo since the origin of the “kinds.” Here we explore Harold Clark's 1946 book, "The New Diluvialism," which includes a short section at the end that addresses how much divergence in species a creationist can accept and still be called a creationist.
I will show how Clark's attempt to define biblical "kinds" in 1946 bears striking similarities to today's Young Earth Creationist interpretations. This is contra what I had suggested in a paper I published in 2020. I use this text to show that young-age creationists have always had a wide diversity of views of what taxonomic units may be equivalent to a created kind.
A big thank you to paleontologist Mark Miller of the College of Wooster for a copy of this book.
