2017-2024 Duramax: Engine Air Filter Service (L5P)

How to service or replace the engine air filter on a 2017-2024 Duramax 6.6L with the L5P engine. Unclean air drawn into the engine contaminates the oil and acts as an abrasive on moving parts. It also gums up sensors affecting fuel economy and performance. An excessively dirty or restricted air filter can decrease fuel mileage, reduce horse power, make noise, create smell, set codes, etc. The air filter should be checked every oil change and replaced on-condition. Heavy dust or salt environments, humidity, and vehicle load can affect the volume and condition of the air drawn through the air filter. If the filter appears dirty, replace it.
