Dr. Gerst is a graduate of the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Columbia University, earned his undergraduate and Master's degree in Public Health and Hospital Administration from Columbia, his MBA from the Goizueta School of Business at Emory University in Atlanta and is completing a Doctorate in Finance and a Master's in Taxation at Nova Southeastern University. He has also recently completed courses at the Harvard Business School, Law School and School of Public Health. Dr. Gerst is a Diplomat in the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Dr. Gerst is Vice President of Medical Affairs for MedCurrent Corporation - one of the leading clinical decision software companies in the nation. Prior to joining MedCurrent, Dr. Gerst was Vice President of VISTA Health Plan in Hollywood, Florida, (a $1.2 billion HMO - the largest in South Florida), Regional Medical Director and Senior Consultant for what is now PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, and President and CEO of the PPO Division of Columbia/HCA -- The Healthcare Corporation under Florida's current Governor Rick Scott. He is also former President of the International Medical Travel Association of the Americas, which was sponsored by the Singapore National Government.

Prior to that, Dr. Gerst was Assistant Vice President of Crawford & Company, where he built the first national PPO for workers compensation and group health for AIG and other Crawford clients. He began his career as a Senior Consultant for what is now Premier, Inc. serving 2,400 hospitals nationally. He currently consults with a variety of leading national health care information technology companies around Accountable Care Organizations and Electronic Medical Record systems with clients that include Cleveland Clinic, Tenet Hospitals, Sutter Health and over 100 IPA, MSO, ACO and Medicare Advantage plans providing services to more than 20 million patients nationally and internationally. He also holds FINRA Series 7 and 66 licenses for healthcare investment banking and is preparing for his Series 79.
