The Commission for Gender Equality says it is unsatisfied with the answers provided by the City of Tshwane on the progress it has made in empowering women in the informal trading sector.

City officials have been presenting their report on the progress made in empowering women in the informal sector before the Commission.

The commission's preliminary findings have revealed that almost 60% of trading permits issued in the first quarter of the 2024/25 financial year went to women across different racial groups.

However, the commission has found that despite women being the main contributors to this sector there were no clear plans to address the challenges facing them particularly on basic sanitation.
