(28 Mar 2017) British Prime Minister Theresa May on Tuesday said the energy-rich nation of Qatar is pledging new investment in Britain.
Speaking at a Qatar-UK business and investment forum in Birmingham, May said her plan for Britain "is not just a plan to leave the EU but a plan to build a stronger economy and a fairer society underpinned by genuine economic and social reform."
Qatar's Prime Minister Abdullah bin Nasser Al Thani announced the 6.3 billion US dollar investment at a parallel forum in London.
He said the outlay would come over the next three to five years through investment funds and other "relevant parties" in the Gulf Arab country, a major exporter of natural gas.
May is due to invoke Article 50 and trigger leaving procedures from the European Union on Wednesday.
