While my channel is mainly focused on making a living online, I do like to post some lifestyle videos and show folks what I'm up to.

A good investment I made into my home this past year was to have a section of my basement turned into a livable space.

Someone who previously lived in the home had done some framing and started to put up drywall but never really properly finished off the space.

I decided to re-built the staircase, add additional framing around a large section of wall, around the base of the stairs and enclose the ceiling. All of this would truly give me a finished room.

We decided to create a wall and a large step around the base of the stairs to hide the entire rock foundation and keep it all in it's own area.

I decided to go with a pocket door for maximum space in case I was doing laundry or we ever needed to move any large items through the door.

Because the property was built in 1890, the concrete floor was likely mixed by hand. It was completely uneven and really needed to be leveled out properly. I hired a contractor to pour concrete and it was definitely a good choice.

I ended up going with a interlocking gym mat style floor which came out quite nice, it's likely going to hold up well since there is no direct sunlight and I put it down myself within a couple of hours. I linked the product below.

Here is a breakdown of the costs:

Carpenter: (Friend of mine who gave me a good deal) $4000~ with all the materials and labor. He did the bulk of the framing and drywall.

Painter: $1100 to mud, paint and fix up some misc trim work around the stairs, install the railing etc.

Electrician: $850 to install 8 LED lights and run 3 new outlets along with running new wire.

Mason: $1100 to pour concrete from the pocket door all the way back.

All in all I'm happy with how this basement remodel project came out, it's made a whole new space where we now have a guest bed (the old guest bedroom is going to be our future daughter's room) and it's also now an office space for my wife.
