TOP TEN Clay Tobacco Pipe finds from the River Thames - Amazing Pipe Extractions

Описание к видео TOP TEN Clay Tobacco Pipe finds from the River Thames - Amazing Pipe Extractions

There is something undeniably thrilling about pulling on a clay pipe stem sticking out of the Thames mud. As you carefully pull it & more & more stem appears... you hold your breath and you wonder... how long will it be?! Well, this weekend, for my birthday weekend, I decided to indulge myself by reliving a few of my favourite clay pipe extractions. What fun it was. I still remember each one and especially the first one!! I hope you enjoy coming along with me and reliving them too.

Of course, one of the most frequent questions I am asked is - why are there so many clay pipes to be found on the Thames? Well they were in fact disposable and only smoked once or twice before being discarded. It's a bit of a cliche, but it's true that they are like old fashioned cigarette ends, only much nicer of course.

If you want to find out more about clay pipes then a good place to start is with the Society for Clay Pipe Research. You can find them on facebook. They are excellent with ID help. As well as their facebook site, there is their website which is
http://scpr.co/

There is also the pipe archive http://www.pipearchive.co.uk/ is a great resource and both these sites can help with the long list of clay pipe makers and their stamps and initials.

You can become a member of the Society for Clay Pipe Research for a very very reasonable fee (less than 20 GBP per year) and I would highly recommend doing that if clay pipes are something you are interested in! You'll receive newsletters and info frequently.

On this video I mentioned the very talented Graham Anderson and his bespoke trowels. You can find out more on his instagram site which is @gander2439

If you are tempted to try mudlarking then you do need a permit and you can find the information on the website of the Port of London Authority https://pla.co.uk/Environment/Thames-...
