Описание к видео Gabriels Oboe – Farewell, Ennio Morricone [TRIBUTE]

Gabriels Oboe, written by Ennio Morricone and played on organ and oboe by Nenad Leonart and Linda Alijaj.

This is a tribute to the great musician and composer Ennio Morricone, who sadly passed away in the early morning today, July 6th 2020. Thank you Maestro for the wonderful music, may the Angels welcome you and embrace you with open arms!

After hearing the sad news today, I immediately wanted to make a tribute to Maestro Morricone today. With Linda Alijaj on the oboe we decided to perform this piece and recorded it over long distance with our smartphones, me in white and her in black, in honor of the amazing musician and composer Ennio Morricone. We‘ve played this beautiful music together a few years ago and wanted to share it with you through this performance in memory of this great man.

Gabriel's Oboe

"Gabriel's Oboe" is the main theme for the 1986 film The Mission directed by Roland Joffé. The theme was written by Italian composer Ennio Morricone, and has since been arranged and performed several times by famous artists. The theme has been called "unforgettable" and a "celebrated oboe melody".

The soundtrack for the film was very well received amongst critics, being nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Score and earning Morricone the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score.

In the film, the theme is most prominently used when the protagonist, the Jesuit Father Gabriel, walks up to a waterfall and starts playing his oboe, aiming to befriend the natives with his music so he can carry his missionary work in the New World. The Guaraní tribesmen, who have been stalking him from a distance, approach Gabriel for the first time, puzzled by the sounds of the unknown instrument.
