Loquats, why are they so hard to get fruit on in the UK?

Описание к видео Loquats, why are they so hard to get fruit on in the UK?

Fully hardy in most parts of the UK, but extremely tricky to fruit outdoors in our climate. This is simply due to their bizarre habit of flowering late Autumn to early Winter. By flowering at this time of the year there are relatively few pollinating insects around but more crucially the flowers are killed by low temperatures and excessive wet, realistically 2 or 3 degrees above freezing can be fatal. The same can be said of the embryo fruits. Even if any set they are generally wrecked by frosts over the winter months. The plants need an extremely sheltered location from November to April to have a realistic chance of producing fruit.
