Simply transform and talk to a follower at the same time. Be sure to wait until the transformation is finished before equipping your items because everything comes unequipped toward the end of the transformation.

All bonuses from equipment will apply to your transformation as well; the only reason my armor is not going up is because I have Dragonhide on, and when that spell is active, all equipment gives 0 armor.

As you can see, you cannot equip multiple weapons or shields. On PC, you cannot multiples of the same item but you can on Xbox (and possibly PS3) by giving the multiples to your follower, going in to their inventory, and equipping from there.

I've read that some followers will attack you if you turn into a werewolf. I've never actually seen this, but I don't use followers often. Housecarls definitely won't, as you can see.
