A Qantas aircraft labelled a “game changer” has landed in the capital for the first time.⁠

The A220-300, operated by Qantas regional subsidiary QantasLink, landed seven minutes ahead of schedule at 3.13pm to a water arch welcome from the fire service.⁠

The model has never landed in New Zealand before and it’s the first time the Australian carrier is using it on an international route. It will fly up to three times a week between Wellington and Brisbane.⁠

Qantas boss Vanessa Hudson had previously labelled it a “game changer”. It can travel twice as far as the Boeing 717 model it is replacing, while burning 25% less fuel.⁠
