I had Italian honey bees for four years before getting involved with Foley's Russian Bees. Of 46 Foley queens sent to me UPS next day air, only half survived long enough to make colonies. The rest died during and after shipping and I never got a refund! Of those queens that produced colonies, none of them were might resistant and half of those colonies died their first winter. I also noticed the colonies did not put their honey where they should have. I spent a great deal of time managing them, something I never had to do with the Italians I had before and still had during the time I had Foley's Russian Bees. Today I'm still finding the decisions made by the colonies have slowed their growth (pollen bound). I was hoping I could breed the stupid out of my bees, which came from Foley's Russian Bees. But two years later, my colonies still need to be managed! The colony in this video was given frames with empty cells about two weeks ago but they have since filled the cells with pollen. Now there is no place for the queen to lay until brood hatches out. This will slow down the growth, again I need to step in and manage them.
