An exploration of Trivandrum's Palayam Market, also known as Connemara Market. Here we explore vegetable shops, cloth shops, meat shops, and the dirtiest fish market.

Trivandrum, Kerala India, has many historical monuments, Connemara market is one of them. Centuries ago during 1811-1814 when Colonel Munroe became the resident and Divan under British, the army started to encamp. This place was later known as Palayam. The Palayam Market was established during 1857, when Sri Uthradom Thirunal was the Maharja of Travancore mainly to supply day to day essential commodities to the Army. It is also said that, since the army encamp was started there around 1811-1814, the market was might be there before 1857. It was weekly market when its opened in 1857. When demands and traders increased, its slowly turned to daily market. During 1888, the governor of Madras Robert Bourke Connemara visited Travancore. In his honor, the market was then named as "Connemara Market" by the Travancore King. Source: MediaOne TV.
