RORY MCILROY, PATRICK CANTLAY TIED FOR U.S. OPEN LEAD

On the first day of the U.S. Open, Patrick Cantlay initially led with an impressive 65, but Rory McIlroy stole the show by finishing a bogey-free round with a spectacular 20-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole, tying for the lead. McIlroy stood out for his discipline and control, hitting 15 out of 18 greens and easily recovering from the few misses. With notable performances from Ludvig Åberg, Matthieu Pavon, and Bryson DeChambeau, the competition started intensely. Scottie Scheffler, the world’s number one player, finished 1-over-par, facing challenges on the demanding Pinehurst No. 2 course.
