“Then came the war which changed absolutely everything. We also had the bad luck of being Jewish. And of course, pretty soon, the Germans came in and that changed everything in a very negative way.”
Peter Munk, successful businessman and philanthropist, considers moving to Canada “his lucky break”, after having escaped the Nazi Regime in Hungary in 1944. After co-founding Clairtone, manufacturer of high quality and design stereos, Munk made his fortunes founding the Southern Pacific Hotel Corporation and eventually, Barrick Gold – the world’s largest gold mining company.
