District poonch is situated at northwest, along with line of control, in union territory of Jammu and Kashmir
District headquarter is also known as Poonch Town
and its distance from Major city of Jammu is around 235 kms
Pir panjal mountain range which separates Jammu and Kashmir region, on southern slopes of pir panjal in mountains and valley lies this beautiful and amazing place ,Poonch.
In ancient times this place was known as palatsya nagar
as per ancient texts , Maharishi Palatsya, Who was grand father of Ravana ,
spent his life there meditating so this place got its name as playsya nagar.

Poonch District has many historical and beautiful places and it has lot of potential in tourism sector
there tourist attractions are quite famous in surrounding areas and some of them attracts tourists from neighboring states as well as other parts of the country also visit there.
some of these attractions are
Pir ki Gali which lies on mughal Road, the highest point on road there.
its located at 11400 ft above sea level surrounded by snow clad mountains and pastures below.
Mughal road starts from Bufliaz region in poonch and this road connects poonch with Shopian district in Kashmir Valley.
Just ahead of bufliaz , off from the road theres another beautiful place known as noorie chamb waterfall
This was route for mughal emperiors snd they used to pass through this route ,enjoy there at waterfall and their resting place was in chandimal where they had a sarai
and this waterfall got its name after beloved queen of experior Jehangir, Noorjahan

Just few kms from poonch town there are two beautiful places of poonch known as Saawjian and mandi loran
Both these places are surrounded by beautiful mountains of Pir panjal range.
Poonch is also known as Valley of seven lakes as well as The city of Saints.
There are many religeous places for piligrimage also for different communitirs and religeon.

Baba Budda Amarnath
Gurudwara Nangali Sahib
