Gated Service elevator here, filmed in February 2020: • 100TH VIDEO! Original 1977 Gated ATLAS Fre...
Came back here once again to give an update on this elevator. Completely original and 1970s ATLAS ACBD, as we know, an "Atlinhas". By the serial number, narrows it to around 1975. Located in a fabrics and textiles store in downtown, easily acessible for customers, right by the main entrance.
For those who don't know why it's called "Pop-out", it's because of the buttons that pop-out from the panel.
I wasn't even going to give it a re-filming it at first (hence why I started in the cab), but decided to, as now I had a better microphone to record the motor and relays as they sound. And for another reason you can hear too.
For those who ask, no, I didn't re-film the gated service one again.
Seems like this thing will continue as it is for a long time, they plan to keep preserving it, which is good news as it's in perfect condition and has no real reason to be replaced. Valid for all of the other elevators here. Good too that they didn't put some generic company maintaining it, or else this wouldn't be doing as good as today. Such old elevators aren't easy for anyone to mantain.
Even the store in itself, it's a very traditional location in town and (mostly) still looks like it did in the 70s and 80s. The place is enormous in size.
Hasn't changed much, obviously, still mantained by Schindler, preserved cab, and rides the same as before, with the 2-speed and relay-logic control. Even the old Atlas Villares maintenance plaque from the Classe A era is going strong.
However, now there is a "banging" sound coming from the machine room when leveling on the up direction. Sounds like hammering a nail on a wall, but really, really fast.
I don't know what or why it is making that, no effects on the ride at all. 8 months before, it didn't make this sound, it has been receiving service for that time.
If anyone knows or has a good guess at what that sound is... you're welcome to write it in the comments.
Another thing I never figures out about these older Atlas fixtures, is that "LUZ" (Light) indicator with a small button below. I don't know if that's for the cab lights, doesn't seem like it's meant to be pressed. Some sort of emergency light too? If anyone knows about this too...
But good to know that one of my favorite elevators to ride is still doing well today. Fix that issue and it's as good as new. Something you can't have with most current era elevators, is having them running as they did over 50 years ago. Many probably won't last 30 until needing some modernization or even replacement.
