Rank Choice Voting (RCV) is an electoral method, also known as instant runoff voting, that permits voters to rank their chosen candidates in order—one, two, three, etc. Advocates of this method believe it better ensures that the most popular candidate wins. Moreover, RCV should allow voters more freedom to vote for the candidates that they most prefer. This is the method of voting that has been implemented in the selection of Curtis Sliwa and Eric Adams as their respective parties’ current nominees for Mayor of New York City.
