Hey all! Here's my piano cover of the O Maidens in Your Savage Season OP "Otome-domo yo. For me, O Maidens was like the hidden gem of this anime season. I only started watching it recently but it is just hilarious and super underrated! And the OP is such a bop.

What I found super interesting when learning this cover is that the main chords for the song are the exact same as Pachelbel's Canon aka. Canon in D. I find it so fascinating that two pieces with the same chords (but different key) can sound so different. O Maidens has a typical anime opening feel, whereas Canon in D is, well, Canon in D. Many of you know that a lot of mainstream pop songs with simplistic, dry, 4 chord instrumentals frustrate me because there is little musical substance to listen to. Prior to learning this piece, I thought that any song with a basic chord progression was destined to be boring and stale. The O Maidens OP proved me wrong. While it has a very simple and common chord progression, the cute Japanese-style melody and contrast between verses (not just how I did it in my cover, in the original song too!) in this piece allows it to transcend a typical pop song with the same chords. The O Maidens OP is a unique piece, despite its basic chords – I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who pays attention to this kind of stuff, but that is just so interesting to me.
