The effects of rising inflation

Retail sales unexpectedly rose last month, despite the cost of living crisis, driven by higher sales of alcohol and tobacco.

But speaking to Sky News, the former Bank of England governor Lord King warned the public to brace themselves for a "very unpleasant period" ahead.
