National healthcare reform legislation passed by Congress in 2010 may or may not survive consideration by the U.S. Supreme Court, but the healthcare system is already evolving in ways that are likely to proceed regardless of the success or failure of national reform efforts, experts say.
At the recent PLUS Medical Liability Symposium in Chicago, Jim Fasone, senior vice president of Alliant Insurance Services in Denver, Colo., explained that decreasing reimbursements combined with greater regulatory scrutiny are among the many challenges faced by healthcare executives.
The insurance industry is well-situated, however, to respond to the evolving exposures in health care with new products and thoughtful underwriting, said Fasone, who specializes in helping healthcare professionals and facilities with their insurance and risk management needs.
