Title has been changed
Amaryllis Duvane is the name of the heroine of The Poor Relation (Signet Regency, March 1984, ISBN 0451128184) published under Beaton's previous penname of Marion Chesney. Under any name, it's very entertaining and I would recommend it highly. I love Chesney's acerbic humor and her eye for eccentricity. However, I do wish the name had not been changed as it will only cause confusion (it confused me - I had hoped for a new unknown Chesney).

Fun Story
I don't know how anyone could give this story less than five stars. It is pure Regency romance and only as M. C. Beaton can write it. It's only as I reflect on on the story that I can see the Cinderella element to it, but like the Walt Disney version it is not.

History/Romance/Intrigue - winning combination
I love the Regency books written by M.C. Beat on. They are historically interesting and the romance and intrigue leaves me wishing I could go back there in time

British style
This is the second book I read from Ms. Beaton. The first was one of her Agatha Raisin mysteries. Amaryliss has a totally different style and I also enjoyed this. Her style is diverse along the lines of Andrew McCall Smith. Most enjoyable. This particular story had a British style reminding me of Downton Abbey or a similar venue.
