📣 Big Update to Michigan Cottage Food Law — Just Signed!

Governor Whitmer has signed into law major updates to Michigan’s Cottage Food Law, expanding what home-based food businesses (like us!) are allowed to do and how much they can grow.

✅ Online Orders & Shipping Allowed
• You can now ship your cottage food products to customers or use third-party delivery services - no more mandatory in-person sales only. (within Michigan)

🔥 What’s New Under the Law For Sales Limits
• Gross sales cap increases from $25,000 to $50,000 per year.
• If you sell individual products priced at $250 or more, your cap can go up to $75,000 per year.
• Starting Oct. 1, 2026, these caps will adjust annually with inflation.

There are other parts in this law as well. I highly encourage everyone to read HB4122

Why is this all important? This update will allow us to build a proper amount of capital to expand into a commercial setting without taking as large of financial risk. We have advocated for this law all year, and we are very happy to see it finally approved.

We hope that this will bring peace of mind to cottage food operations throughout our wonderful state and continue building a large economic footprint. We want to thank the Michigan politicians for getting this done with bipartisan support.
