Britain's Princess Diana unveiled a slick new look as she attended a fashion gala in the United States. Sporting gelled back hair, she found it hard to avoid rumours that she - at least at some point - intended to move to New York. Princess Diana was the centre of attention as she arrived to present a special award at the Council of Fashion Designers of America ceremony. The big names of American fashion gathered at New York's Lincoln Centre for what is described as the Oscars of the fashion industry.

Britain's Princess Diana arrived in Tokyo aboard a Virgin Atlantic Airways plane dubbed "Dragon Lady" for a four-day visit that marked her formal return to British royal duties. The Princess, dressed for Spring in a pink blazer and skirt, and a pearl necklace, was greeted by British and Japanese officials at Tokyo's Narita Airport. Her working visit on behalf of the British Red Cross took her first to a children's hospital.
