IS THE PAST OUR FUTURE?

Tuners ask themselves again and again, how will we go on? With equipment constantly being banned, from electro mobility and flapped controlled exhaust. Regulated test now make it harder for tuning components, complicating the desire for individuality and optimizing your vehicle. In addition, cars are mandated to be quieter while consuming less fuel. Basically, lawmakers are systematically robbing the community of their emotions, Joy and freedom of driving, that have existed for decades. Bit by bit. People with an enthusiasm for tuning and modifying their cars, to show their unique individualism, standing out from the masses is being taken away. Tightening speed limits, traffic rules, as well as the pressure for an even greener society is making it worse. The personal choice of turning a single screw on his or her own vehicle should never disappear over time. That’s how we feel at Pogea Racing.

Founder, Eduard Pogea has been dealing with this topic of resto mods since the early 2000’s. His belief is a fusion of two areas, restoration and modernization. In other words, the curves, lines and characters of the original vehicle are retained. In which then, they are improved and revived with modern elements. Utilizing modern engines from the same bloodline. Such as a modern Volkswagen engine in an much older Volkswagen. Or a classic Corvette with a new age Corvette engine. It’s these important that these changes are not distracting from the original look of the vehicle. It should be only at second glance, the resto mod gets interesting.

This is how Julien from Pogea Racing built this Jetta II. Originally built in 1984, this Volkswagen received a new donor heart from a 2001 Audi S3. From the entire interior of the car, motor, cylinder head and just about every screw, has been modified with high end components. The technology of this car from the cable wire harness and the engine control was adopted from the Audi S3. Now the vehicle has OND diagnostics, a regulated catalytic converter and meets Euro class 3 emissions. Not only that, it has been expanded to 320PS, running a specially built exhaust manifold in conjunction with an Audi S2 KKK24 turbocharger with an external waste gate. The transmission unit was swapped to a Golf III from the 1.9 TDI. The entire system is attached to a MONSTER exhaust, which reveals the vehicles new motor. The brakes have been outfitted with 4-piston Brembo brakes with a 305mm disc and the original bolt circle on the front axles. The wheels were changed to 17x7 Pogeaforged WILHELM’S. The tires are an extremely rare format, running 185/35/17’s. The FOHA rear spoiler has not been available for years. At Pogea Racing, the spoiler was remolded using clay, 3D scanned and reproduced in fiber composite. The wheel arch extensions, from the Golf II G60 were adapted to the body. In collaboration with TUV, previous planning and the collection of all legal documents have this vehicle fully compliant with all regulations.

And that is exactly what is still possible today. The ability to improve an older car intelligently and sustainably if the specialist’s knowledge and documents are available. In addition to the cleaner burning engine, better braking system, easier diagnostics and longer lasting components are the focus of such a project. Because it is still relatively easy for the TUV to improve, especially when it comes to the documents and emissions. The young timer is now ready to shine the next 30 years of life with an incredible driving pleasure and a vehicle with a new life. And so the door opened by Eduard Pogea keeps opening. And the restomod business is becoming more and more an integral part of Pogea Racing GmbH in Friedrichshafen. This is being followed by further with a Corvette C1 utilizing an LT4 drivetrain and a completely modernized 1949 Chevy Pick up truck, harnessing technology from 2020. This is the future of Pogea Racing, just wait and see.
